Created Equal was inspired by Mark Harrington’s vision of uniting human rights defenders. Prior to our launch, Mark commented, “If, at the end of my life, I do not see a long line of young apologists I have equipped behind me, I will have failed.”

Justice Ride to Bowling Green | The beginning of our story
Created Equal’s First Justice Ride. 2011.

In 2011, Mark and colleague Seth Drayer united to realize that idea. Mark had already spent 15 years working full time to save babies from abortion—starting in the final days of the Operation Rescue Movement and continuing on to a tenure of over a decade leading the Genocide Awareness Project for the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform (CBR). Needing a model to give direction to the vision, Mark turned to stories from the Freedom Rides of the 1960s. Reading and watching testimonies of men and women—black and white—boarding buses together to expose racism, he sketched out a plan for our first Justice Ride.

Our Justice Rides transform students from across the nation into a family of preborn defenders. Like the Freedom Riders, we’re focusing the attention of America on injustice—this time, it’s the ageism of abortion, by which young humans are killed daily for reasons we would not permit the killing of older (born) humans. Today, not only do we continue to implement creative new ways to challenge the industry of abortion, but as the Rides continue, our ranks grow. Many Riders return for summer or “gap-year” internships. Others stay on as full-time members of our team. But they all remind us of words uttered by Freedom Rider James Zwerg reflecting decades later upon his time on the bus:

“I sensed a power far greater than any one individual member. Since then I understand that the term is synergism, that the power of many is far greater than any individual.”[1]

We are on a ride for human equality. Join us.
