For decades, California has been at the forefront in pushing the leftists’ deadly pro-abortion agenda. Just last fall alone, in keeping with the state’s dedication to kill more babies, Governor Newsom signed 13 laws protecting and promoting abortion. And in some cases, the state permits abortion even after babies have already been born. But some Californians are willing to go further. Abortion is spiritual by nature, and some in California not only permit, practice, promote, and celebrate abortion; they worship it.

Last month, the “Church” of Potential Life held its first “mass” in Bombay Beach, CA to worship baby-killing. During the service, members knelt and prayed at an altar specifically dedicated to abortion and bodily autonomy. Afterwards, the cult read aloud from a “gospel” and manifesto written by left-wing activist and founder Jackie DesForges.
DesForges founded the “Church” of Potential Life after the Dobbs v. Jackson draft was leaked. She wanted to create a new religion, the sole purpose of which was to worship abortion. According to her, the performance art “church” exists to reclaim a “sacred space” which was supposedly taken from women in Dobbs. And DesForges alleges that her manifesto is the Dobbs decision as it should have been rendered.
“I decided I wanted to do something with [the leaked Dobbs opinion], and kind of write women back into it. And I decided I wanted it to take the form of a manifesto for kind of this new, imaginary religion that sort of worships abortion and female autonomy.” she said.
Ironically, Jackie DesForges’ new “imaginary” religion reveals the truth of what is really happening. Abortion is profoundly spiritual in nature. The pro-abortion movement doesn’t merely celebrate killing babies through abortion; they worship it.*
But as disturbing as this truth is, the practice isn’t new: Other religious entities have performed child sacrifice as a religious ritual since ancient times. And even today, members of the Satanic Temple regularly celebrate, cherish, and worship abortion as part of their religion.**
Innocent human beings should never be sacrificed on the altar of convenience or demonic devotion. In abortion, babies in the womb are cruelly decapitated, disemboweled, dismembered, and discarded. This is the reality which many in the pro-abortion movement are worshiping.
Regardless of what secularists may claim, abortion is a spiritual issue. Pro-life advocates across the nation must recognize this fact as they fight to expose its evil.
*Side Note: Some might claim that the “Church of Potential Life” is not really a religious entity, but a performance art act to protest abortion bans. However, even if this were the case, it would not change what DesForges did or what this act means.
